parking revenue systems
Parking revenue control systems can be split into two main categories: gated and ungated. Gated parking systems use barrier gates to enforce parking. Ungated parking systems require enforcement personnel such as meter maids.
Gated parking systems can be manned, unmanned, or both. A manned system will typically require a cashier in a booth that takes tickets from customers and uses a fee computer to calculate parking fees. A unmanned revenue parking system will be centered around a automated parking pay-on-foot station or a pay-on-exit machine. These systems allow the customer to pay for parking at any time at an automated pay station.
An ungated revenue parking system does not use any barrier gates. Instead the system uses a parking enforcement staff to enforce parking. Multispace parking meters will both dispense tickets and accept payment from customers for more than one parking stall.
